Business evolution
|
The global evolution of the market confirms STAPHYT forecasts and objectives. This year too, we have decided early the appointment of additional agronomists and engineers highly competent to cope with increasing demand of crop protection and seed selection companies.
Trials with non chemical protection products are increasing very much (as natural defences stimulating, various extracts, sex confusion...).
Such a market evolution has been anticipated since a long time within STAPHYT as we were one of the first companies to work on those fascinating subjects in the middle of the 90’s. |
GERMANY AND POLAND : the teams get organized
|
- Agrostat Germany/Poland: Investment in human and equipment means
To cope with increasing demand in seeds trials in both countries, we recruited new trialists and purchased new equipments including sowing machines.
- Germany: strengthening of the teams on existing bases and purchase of sowing equipment. A new German base has just been created in the North of Germany (Vollrathsruhe-Hallalit), in order to have different soil and crop conditions with delayed development stages compared with the rest of the country.
- Poland: Bruno Maurer, the Polish sub-company Manager, announced that they received official agreement for biological and residue trials (GEP and GLP) on any crops. We have also strengthened existing team and purchased new sowing equipment. The development of both activities and related means will be important as demand for experimentations increases very much in this country.
- Spring seminar with AGROSTAT teams in Germany and Poland
The seminar took place on the technical base of Herentierbach early March as usual.
This meeting lasted 4 days and was mainly aimed at either knowing each other and building a European organization in order to reinforce the links between the different teams and exchanging working methods.
The whole teams stay in place to ensure going on of the activities and services that their clients appreciate very much. New responsibilities have been dispatched as follows:
Ingo Schmitt becomes the Manager of AGROSTAT Germany. His colleagues Thierry Dhainaut in France and Bruno Maurer in Poland will help him.
Christa Gerling becomes the Technical Manager for the Crop Protection projects,
Robert Baumgartner is the Technical Manager for the seed projects.
Bernd Tiggemann keeps important responsibilities for commercial relations with the clients in relation with his colleagues within both AGROSTAT and STAPHYT.

STAPHYT / VITI RD processings
|
Development of a new processing method: Essential oils of citrus
Since many years, VITI RD has developed new food processing methods (crystallised cherries, preserved spinach, dried mushrooms, flash expansion wine production, chocolate, bread-making and so many others …) in order to propose an even wider range of food processing to our clients.
With the same approach and to answer to new demands from our clients, VITI RD team has just developed the processing method for essential oils of citrus.« After several months of perfecting, the result is highly conclusive and it is really a success! the method is operational and ready to come up to clients’ expectations » explains Christophe Volle, VITI RD Processing Manager.
This processing method may be added to the long list of existing ones. |
STAPHYT REGISTRATION: the service grows
|
Under Marc Bonnet’s Management, our registration service grows with the appointment of two additional experts for both biological and toxicological aspects of the dossiers.
This department is also in expansion with the addition of Magdalena Zaremba’s expertise and knowledge, very keen on Polish issues.
Marc Bonnet will attend to the Registration Conference in Bruxelles on 19th and 20th May 2009
Please, feel free contacting him for a meeting or for any information (mbonnet@staphyt.fr) |
STAPHYT IN FRANCE: the experimentation network grows on
|
- New station in eastern Brittany at Larchamps (between Fougères and Mayenne). This experimentation unit is developed on the 132ha belonging to one of STAPHYT trialist which joined us in 2004. Various crops are available as cereals, maize, fodder leguminous and meadows. This location is next to Mont Saint Michel polders area specialized in vegetable crops (as root vegetables and cabbage).
We also have there the possibility to set up trials on ornamentals.
- New facilities in Aude (southern France), STAPHYT gets access to a historical station at Roquecourbe-Minervois, between Carcassonne and Narbonne.
STAPHYT works in collaboration with a technical specialist –more than 30 years of experience- to set up trials.
This 7 ha site gives the possibility to set up “difficult” trials with good chance of success as for example:
• Apple trees (old orchard), Rosy aphids, wood borer leps larvae (Zeuzera), beneficials, and herbicides
• Apple trees (new orchard): Codling moth, scab, rosy and green aphids, San jose scale, powdery mildew, crop safety on different varieties (5 varieties together)
• Apricot trees: Monilia on flowers and fruits, powdery mildew, (and some possibilities on Arnasia)
• Peach and nectarines trees: Thrips on flowers and fruits, Monilia on fruits, varians and green aphids, Oriental fruit moth, herbicide and process trials
• Vines : Powdery mildew, berry moth (eudemis) downy mildew, berry mould, mites, scales
• Variety collection of vines for crop safety trials (18 wine varieties and 6 table grapes)
• Nashi : codling moth, oriental fruit moth, chlorosis-iron deficiency/nutrition testing, crop safety
• Possibility to set up trials on any annual arable crops as well as on vegetable crops and ornamentals on fertile and irrigated land.
All other locations’ teams have been reinforced with additional experienced trialists.
STAPHYT network in Europe has now about 200 people. |
Experimentation evolution
|
|
Trial platforms in development:
STAPHYT masters quite well this system of trial management:« We have been using it since several years for different reasons: Platforms gather together several similar trials with common characteristics on one ha or more (same crop, identical water requirements, artificial contaminations, trial monitoring ….). This allows mutual spending for irrigation for example and to reduce travel expenses. Platforms also allow trialists to be independent of the farmers which, in case of important diseases as downy mildew on vines, potatoes or sclerotinia on oil seed rape can be crucial for trial success….» declares Thierry Lecomte, Trial Platform Manager.
Original aspect of 2009 trial programs: Trials on moles and rats
Those trials are set up in situ in order to get registration as part of directive 91/414 EEC and 98/8 EEC. This is a collaboration between Serge Barbieux consultant and STAPHYT trialists. All the trials are managed according to GEP. |
STAPHYT AND IT : a performing and highly valued computer system
|
STAPHYT has always invested in new and innovative technologies and even more during the few last years.
Our system is now entirely multilingual for the working systems as well as for the internal systems (intranet, CRM, technical study management, product sample dispatch, etc…). All our colleagues in France, Germany and Poland as well as our partners in Europe use the same system; it is user-friendly and 100% secured.
Security has been reinforced during the last few months with the development of a private network between all our locations; this has been carried out with ORANGE and with the setting up of new security equipment in our computer facilities.
Looking for even more communication between all our teams and taking advantage of innovation, our new computer system also includes telephony and our facilities are progressively equipped with IP. |
